Barbarian Invasions
Barbarian invasions led to the fall of Rome in many ways. For example, in the 3rd Century AD, Roman soldiers were withdrawn from the Rhine/Dandee Rivers to fight in the civil war in Italy. This left the Roman border open to its enemies. Many of Rome's enemies such as the Goths had been had been creeping in on Rome. This was scaring the people of Rome and making them think that they would be conquered. In addition, the Huns had attacked the Goths, who then pushed into Rome, then the Goths attacked Rome. It was somewhat of a domino effect. Rome's enemies had weakened Rome by taking more and more of its land. Finally, in 476 AD, the Germanic General Odvacar overthrew the last Roman emperor, marking the end of the Western Roman Empire.
